Abstract:

Abstract Background and Objective: Acinetobacter species are opportunistic important pathogens responsible for many nosocomial infections. The purpose of this study was to determine the drug resistan pattern Acinetobacter baumannii and prevalence of ESBL producing strains in Intensive Care Unit patients in Isfahan city hospitals. Material and Methods: The study was conducted on 100 Acinetobacter baumannii strains isolated from clinical samples.  The Isolates were identified by standard methods and confirmed by PCR method. Drug resistance pattern of isolates was determined by standard disk diffusion method according to CLSI. To identify ESBL producing strains, a Combined Disk phenotypic method was used. Results: Hundred percent of Acinetobacter baumannii strains was MDR and the maximum antibiotics resistance was shown to cefepime, co-trimoxazole, ciprofloxacin, meropenem and ceftazidime. According to initial screening, 4.5% of strains were producing Extended Spectrum Beta Lactamase enzyme. Conclusion: The percent of ESBLs producing strains is low. Thus, Combined Disk for initial screening of ESBLs strains and multiplex PCR for rapid detection of ESBLs strains are recommended.   This issue can be a new step in preventing from the spread of Acinetobacter Baumannii Strains in hospitals particularly in intensive care unit. Antibiotic Resistance Pattern and the Prevalence of Extended Spectrum Beta-Lactamases (ESBLs) in Urinary Isolates of Klebsiella Pneumoniae

Abstract Background and Objective: Klebsiella pneumoniae is an opportunistic nosocomial pathogen causing a variety of infections including urinary tract infections, pneumonia, septicemia, wound infections and infections in the intensive care units. Since the ESBL producing Klebsiella pneumoniae strains are increasingly causing urinary tract infections, we aim to assess antibiotic resistance pat...

Antibiotic resistance patterns and the prevalence of ESBLs among strains of Acinetobacter baumannii isolated from clinical specimens

The aim of current study was to define the antibiotic susceptibility patterns and detect the prevalence of producing strains of Extended-Spectrum β-Lactamase (ESBL) in 400 Acinetobacter baumannii (A. baumannii) which had been isolated from 3 major hospitals in Tehran clinical samples with combined disk test, The majority of isolates were from blood specimens. the susceptibility tests were carri...

Antibiotic Resistance Patterns and Molecular Typing of Acinetobacter Baumannii Strains Isolated from Burn Patients in Iran

Background and Aims: Acinetobacter baumannii (A. baumannii) is an important multidrug-resistant opportunistic pathogen frequently causing various nosocomial infections and is a serious threat to burn patients. These infections are usually caused by the outbreak strains. The aim of this study was to show antibiotic resistance pattern and molecular typing of A. baumannii genes isolates collected ...

Role of class 1 Integron in prevalence extended-spectrum beta-lactamases of class D (oxa-2 , oxa-10) along with determining antibiotic resistance pattern in Pseudomonas strains isolated from clinical specimens

Aim and Background:Eradicating infections is difficult due to the presence of genes on the introns, especially the beta-lactamase enzymes and  The importance of their resistance is high. The purpose of this study was to determine the beta-lactamase genes (OXA-2 , OXA-10) , Integron class 1  and antibiotic resistance. Material and methods:In this cross sectional descriptive study, 120 Pseudomona...

qnr Prevalence in Extended Spectrum Beta-lactamases (ESBLs) and None- ESBLs Producing Escherichia coli Isolated from Urinary Tract Infections in Central of Iran

Objective(s) Extensive use of quinolones has been associated with raising level of resistance. In the current, we focused on assessing the prevalence of Escherichia coli resistance to quinolones and frequency of qnrA, qnrB and qnrS in non ESBLs (extended spectrum beta-lactamases) and ESBLs producing E. coli with blaSHV and blaTEM. Materials and Methods One hundred and fifty E. coli isolates ...
